Implantable Birth Control

Some women prefer implantables because they can prevent pregnancies for a long period of time, but are still easy to reverse. Devices can be implanted into a woman’s body to reduce the likelihood of pregnancy.

The implantable rod is a small device implanted under the skin of a woman’s upper arm that releases hormones to prevent pregnancy. Copper or hormonal intrauterine devices, or IUDs, are inserted in a gynecologist’s office to prevent fertilization of the eggs.
